GDPR for Memberships

We work with a lot of membership organisations and they have some unique challenges around GDPR, from those which are based internationally and how to manage the data of UK and EU individuals as opposed to the rest of the world members to those organisations which are linked to a professional body.

Some of the challenges faced by memberships are:

Contact preferences – This is especially difficult to assign contact preferences when one party, for example a company might be the member but individual staff have access to the membership.

Building a community – How to create a community and potentially share member contact information?

Data Sharing – How to share member information with other organisations who may need access to the membership database?

Events – Running events for members, how to effectively share information, contact members who may find the event of interest.

Additional Services and verifying them – the provision of discounts and other services for members needs data sharing to be able to validate the membership, how does this happen and how often is that data refreshed?

Regional Committees – Volunteer or paid committees and their members, how is data shared and what agreements need to be in place?

This is just a few of the common issues that memberships struggle with but each membership is different and may have different challenges as a result.
